In 2014 Bleeding Art Industries connected with Wild Forest to build a website that would showcase their animated shorts. The site focuses on their award winning short ‘Skeleton Girl’, a story of a little girl named Millicent who steals a gem from an abandoned cemetery.
With a distinct art direction we put the environments front and center for the fans. Using photos of the models and parallax effects users can explore the sets, adding depth to the short. Fans can also find details about film festivals, media kits and the team behind the short.
I was technical lead on the project, gathering requirements, creating estimates, building, testing and deploying the site. It is powered by WordPress with a custom built theme. Toward the end of the project two more developers were brought in to help with performance enhancements and optimization.
Striking a balance between animation and optimization is difficult. I learned about the caveats of browser performance. This was my first attempt working with the HTML5 History API, using short video clips as bumpers between pages and controlling sprite animations.
